Ether To Get Home

So I am going to get my truck back to the house this afternoon, hell or high water. It's about 2 miles away. I was going to pop open the air filter housing, remove filter and give a quick shot of starting fluid........I know, I know. It's in the high 90's and if I'm thinking right, the grid heater doesn't even cycle in that kind of climate. Is this where I should be spraying it ? Thanks - Curtis

Thanks man.................I guess when I get home with her, I can take the unused portion of starting fluid and go inside and have about 40 beers and a ether party to take my mind off of knowing I'm gonna have to replace an injector or two....!!!

Thing is, it's hard for me to have that much down time as this is my daily ride. I have a '07 Harley UltrsClassic, but here in Houston, it's been awful wet. I have a guy in town here that can get me New Bosch injectors for $425 each, brand new, so I'll probably order up a pair and break her open when they get here, hoping that I can limp her around for a few days in the meantime. Yea 40 beers is a lot, unless I can find a pair of blond college twins that are cheerleaders to help out......................

wonder in limping around on 2 good injectors, if the other 4 are shot, will screw up the good 2?

If I thought 4 were bad, I would definitely go all 6, however, in my case, my hunch is that 1 is bad for sure...........I also have to look at $425 vs. $2500. The truck runs beautifully when started, I mean perfect. So.....................I dunno, the whole thing is givin' me trucker's butt.

my truck runs awesome once started as well. how many and which injectors are shot?? i dunno. not going to pay dodge 400 for them to screw me around and tell me that 2,3,6 injectors are screwed. i figure if one is screwed, the rest are soon to follow. i just, 30 mins ago, ordered 6 new injectors. i'll try to figure out which old ones are still good and figure something to do with them. return screwed ones for core charge.
i cannot afford to be off work any longer.

Well the hard start issue has been hangin' on. I've been waiting for my Quadzilla rail pressure/lp pressure monitor to get here before I tear into her....just to verify that my rail pressure is low when cranking. My fuel pressure relief valve is OK. My CP3 is OK. I'll tighten individual connections at fuel injector tubes.....that just about leaves a leaking injector as the culprit.

It left me stranded at the HEB yesterday morning. Figured I'd return later and she would crank, but noooooooo....so I'll fetch her home with a can of ether after work today. Time to face the facts..............................

I want to know why peopel think the injectors are the reason for a no start, if when the truck is running, it runs perfect. How can that be? If the injector is leaking down, it is going to leak when running, and run poorly, ALL the time. Please explain to me what (everyone that thinks injectors) is your explanation for it?

It's a common rail thing If there is a small leak while cranking it will not build enough pressure at idle to fire off.

i thought that if the injectors were screwed that the truck would run aweful as well. but after reading a forum on here "2003 cranking but no start", it appears that 4 or 5 guys who have the no start problem, like cwoodall and i, and have changed out lp, like cwoodall and i, and have had many other tests and parts changes, the only cure has been new injectors.
i went to dealer on friday and diesel tech did a couple cheap tests and determined that i only have 1000psi at injectors and should have 5- 6000. he tested this up to some pump.(not lp). he figures that 80 % chance it is injector(s).
with the sucess that other 03s with starting issues have had changing injectors, i will save the $400 test to know for sure and just change them out. crossing my fingers really tight hoping that that is it.
i was told common rail was good.
