Question Starting With Ether???

Is starting your truck with ether bad? i have starting problems with my truck, fairly sure VP44 is going or gone but the only way the truck will start is with ether. it runs ok when started, sometimes under WOT shifting in 3rd or 4th the truck will cut out hard at high RPMs (head almost hits dash) for a split second and come back and run fine.

codes are p0463, 0237, 0253, 1688, 1693

What do you think of all this

If your grid heaters come on when you have a good dose of ether in the intake, it's going to ruin your whole day!

0463 is fuel level sender voltage too high
0237 is the Map sensor voltage too low
0253 is Injection pump fuel valve open circuit
1688 is an "Internal injection pump controller failure"
1693 mean some codes where cleared from the JTEC module

Rusty is right of course ether and red hot air intake heater are not good things to be mixing. And I've seen different diesel engines that have been ethered and they had their top rings broken and it scored the bore alittle bit.

I think its time for a new VP

Fix what's wrong instead of ruining your truck with ether.

This is a case of penny-wise, pound-foolish if you keep using the ether.

it would be pretty hard to spray to much either in your truck, just a small shot to get it started won't hurt it. but try this for me. next time you go to start your truck, disconnect the lift pump and try to start it. if it starts, plug the lift pump back in. and if you are short on cash just put a switch in the power line of the lift pump. i know guys that are running 2 years with it wired in like i suggested.

My Buddy was telling me the other day how some diesels can get "addicted" to the ether. To the point that they will only start with ether. How this works I dont know, But it sounds to me that you have some pump problems.

I've seen this happen with alcohol race motors, not sure why. Just seems like they get to where they won't start without it.
