Erratic Oil Pressure
Howdy,
well, I've got a question about my '03 dodge. I've noticed that my oil pressure gauge is all over the map. AFAIK the actual numbers on the guage are different up here than yours, so I'll be as generic as I can.
When I start it up, it sits at about a 3/4-11/16 position (assuming far left is 0 and far right is 1, and dead center is 1/2) but it also falls down to nearly 1/4, or just a hair above the redline. When accelerating, it steadily increases from 1/4 to about 7/16, and when the accelerator is released, it falls back to 1/4. No codes have been thrown. If my oil pressure was steadily lower, I would assume an injector problem or something like that, but its all over the place. Anyone have any ideas??
Edit** Bad sending unit??

there is no oil pressure sensor on our engines. there is a 6psi oil pressure switch. anything over 6 psi and the ecm controls the movement of the gauge in the cluster according to what the coolent temp is, the air temp is, the engine speed... it calculates what the approx. oil pressure should be and shows that...

a linear fashion to the proper relative pressure position of the gauge scale.

You don't want to know the cost unless you still "got warranty".
