engine trouble on 2 day old 2005
Belt can't be put on to tight. Its got a spring loaded tensioner. Some early 03s had a differant stamped alternator bracket that was prone to cracking.Theres a Tsb on that and a cast iron bracket replacement.
It at least looks like some dealers are at least trying to diagnose the problem. Mine (and a few others) simply replaced the belt.
So now I keep my eye on it, and don't really trust it.
Which should NOT be the case on a relatively new vehicle. I shouldn't have to pop the hood once a week like it's a 30 year old Pinto.

My neighbors did it in 4k.He put 4k on his truck in about 2 weeks hauling.Anyhow first thing the tech said when he looked at it was pully/tensioner was bad.Another bigger dealer in another town nearby said thhey had replaced a fair amount of tensioners and belts.Usually kept them on hand but was out.
well just to keep you updated i recirved my truck back from the dealer on wed. afternoon , was able to drive the truck to work the next day didnt even get to put 100 miles on it and the **** thing shreeded another belt , i was ferious the dealwer coulldnt believe (sound to me like they did a half *** job ) i told them they better get the truck runnig right this time before giving it back our i want a new truck well see what happens next week if there able to diagnose the problem if not somebody either getting there money back /new truck
I think Hounddog is right. Sounds like your issue is more than a defective belt. Make your dealer do it right. However, if it happens a third time, you could simply lemon it, and get a new truck.
does any one know if the belt with the cross hatches in it are shredding?mine has the crosshatches in it and has 24800km on it and is still running great.

Like I said in an earlier post, it appears that the belt which comes on the engines from Cummins is only ribbed, not cross-hatched. Don't know who there supplier is.
The replacement MOPAR belt which the dealer used is cross-hatched, and only rarely chirps. It does seem logical that the cross-hatched belt is designed to track better, so we'll see.
I check my belt weekly now.
