Engine Surge

I am having an issue with my engine surging/missing. Mainly happens at idle, but if I rev the motor it seems like it is missing on the way down to idle. I am at a loss as to what this might be. If it's worth anything, I had the transmission rebuilt 3 months ago and replaced the diesel filter less than 3000 miles ago. Please see attached youtube link.

You didn't post a signature, truck year, any mods, mileage ect. That might help some guys with their input.

Welcome to this site you will find alot of knowledge and opinions. I at one time had a slight surge in my truck not as radical as yours. I added some two cycle oil {ashless type I think it is TW3} along with Diesel Kleen and a formula. If interested I will send you what formula I used. My surge went away and my way of thinking was that the injectors or pump were having problems. After using this additive it went away after several full tanks of fuel. You do have high miles on your truck and injectors might need replacing. Hope this helps, others will probaly chime in with other ideas and causes for your surge.

I spoke to the mechanic at my local diesel shop yesterday and he informed me to use Diesel Kleen every time I fill up. He also said that I should use 3 times the normal amount for the next few tanks. If you could send me the formula that you used it would be extremely helpful. Thanks for your response and tolerance of a rookie forum poster

P.S. The mechanic mentioned that I should avoid filling up at any gas station that has a percentage of bio-diesel added to the fuel. Out here the only stations that don't add a percentage of bio-diesel are Chevron, Safeway, and Fry's. Thanks again!

As far as I'm concerned we're all rookies somethings come up and we rely on each other to help keep the labor costs down and parts costs down. Also knowledge is a great help.

Here is what I use you may want to use a stronger formula and more often until you think the surge has been fixed. If not you will have to start checking other functions/systems out. But the additive is easiest and cheapest. Hope it works!

20 oz. Dieselkleen
12 oz. TC-W3 two cycle oil {ashless which TC-W3 is} mixed together with Dieselkleen.
add 1/2 oz per gal. of diesel

Works for me but I add every other fillup or part fill up.
Some people think additives are snake oils but everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Thanks for the help, I will give it a shot. The diesel kleen I put in it along with a filter change has already reduced the surge drastically. Crossing my fingers that I will get out of this one in a cheap manor.

If you come out of this ok you might think about adding the cat filtering system for added protection.
