Engine RPM's fluctuate when I push in the clutch

For the past month or so I have noticed when ever I come to a stop and push the clutch in the RPM's drop to about 650 and then go up to 850 and drop back down kinda like a spring until they reach idle. I have no clue why it is doing this all of the sudden, kinda is starting to worry me, anybody have an Idea?

I have noticed exactly the same thing with my truck but it has done this since the day I picked it up. I am curious about this as well. I'm not very worried about it though.

Just the computer adjusting to slightly less load. Nothing to be of any concern.

A couple of weeks ago my 04 truck started doing that.... than it started to hunt for the correct idle when it was just sitting.... than as I pulled away from a stop light there was like a dead spot in the throttle.... and than the computer would catch and you'd take off....

The truck has been sitting at the dealer for 5 days.... the first 3 they ordered parts as all were star parts.... On Wed afternoon I sort of mixed the pot up a little with a call the general manager..... as they spent a lot of money.... my 04 now has 90K on the clock and it wasn't any better..... they spent all day Thur and Fri. switching parts from a new truck.... late on Fri I get this call..... its still not fixed and we have no idea...... sort of call.....

If you have any thoughts I'd love to hear from you..... the list of what has been changed now is very long.......

I have been adding Diesel Kleen to the fuel for the past few months. Would that have anything to do with it? I also changed the fuel filter, I only have 4800 miles on my truck, and I've had the new 18-037-04 flash done.

My build dates are both in February 2004 and I havn't had the most recent flash done. I am leaning towards Nord's comment. There havn't been any of those other problems (rpm hunting, dead spot in throttle) with this truck so I don't think it's a problem.

please let me know what you have found out about this. I have the exact same truck and same mods, even the same color. I put the straight pipe on it and now it hunts for the right idle speed. The Cummins service dept. said it was the Thottle Position Sensor. That sounds like the problem. Also they said that Dodge knows about this and is trying to fix this. I went to the dealer and they were puzzled. The only thing that bothers me about the rpm hunting is a rattle i get when it does it. Before I spend a ton of money on a new exhaust and intake please let me know what you think

When you are rolling to a stop breaking and the engine rpms drop below a certain point(idle engine speed), the computer will try to compensate by adding fuel. When you step on the clutch that fuel starts to burn and the rpms go up. When the computer figures out that there is no load, it defuels back to idle.

Solution:
1. downshift while approching a stop.
2. step on the clutch sooner.
