Engine Noise

Got a question. I have noticed that sometimes (probably 50% of the time) my truck makes a ticking noise when I start it. Before anybody replies "its a diesel" let me say that its not the normal cold start shake rattle and rumble that I have noticed with any other CTD. When you first start it, it has a rapid "tick" for about a minute. I can slowly accelorate the idle and after about 20 seconds it will go away. Any comments or suggestions. Its kind of like a valve tick with a regular gasoline engine.

Try some fuel conditioner like Power Service for a few tanks of fuel...may help.

Lack of oil in the plunger/injector arms?

Are you sure your not talking about the powerjoke?

our injectors are electrically activated. Powerjoke uses oil pressure to activate injectors (called HEUI, hydraulic electric unit injector)

I've been running power service for the last few tanks and havent noticed a difference. I'm trying to monitor it more closely and see exactly when it is doing it. Colder weather vs. warm, cold start vs. warm start, ect.....

Its a very distinct sound....like tapping a finger on metal......is the reason it concerned me. Havent noticed it in other trucks.

Thanks PurNLoud....I see you are another Texan. I was chatting with Hoss via PM earlier today. I was telling him that we are thinking of moving to Texas in 9 years when I retire.

I'll check what you are talking about and see if that seems to be where the noise is coming from. Or at least the same rythem.
