Engine blew up on way home need help
Engine came apart and windowed both sides of the block and destroyed the starter. What year blocks will work with my cylinder head? Also how heavy is the motor?

Any 3rd gen block should work but the pistons are different in the 03-04 engines. You would need an 04.5-07.5 short block to match the electronics and injectors in the truck.

Pictures? And details?
I know with that sort of mileage you must be busy - and you're using your diesel truck. However we're a curious lot, and catastrophic failures pike the intrest. Must not have sounded very good...

I will get some pics and hopefully start swaping it out this weekend. Unfortunatly there is not a good story to go with this carnage. I left work made my normal uturn under 75 got on the gas to get around a slow moving BMW and then boom, knock, knock, knock glanced down at the guages still had oil pressure. Hell it was still running. Saw the check engine light come on and killed it. Coasted into Huffines Kia. I was kind of hoping theflex plate had broken or the input shaft of the trans. Alof those dreams were dashed when I saw the trail of oil and herd the oil pouring out on to the ground. I have blown lots of motors in my life but I have never had one go like this. In the past I have allways seen the oil pressure drop just before something lets go.

Kurt, did you have any success finding a replacement motor?
Was the motor still cold when you got on it? What kind of oil filter? Any ideas on why this happened?
So sorry to hear this, but it is VERY unusual for one of our motors to blow like this unless extremely modified and perhaps a shot of nitrous. Yours is still stock or basically stock IIRC.
