Had the weirdest thing this week.

Got in the truck to head to work (~1000km drive) and as I turned on to the highway and put my foot down the truck totally bogged out, then slowly worked up to speed with very little power.

It maintained highway speeds ok but with little power and it felt like the throttle was lagging every time I hit the pedal. After driving for about an hour it seemed to clear up and I'd get my full power back for a while, then the problem started happening once in a while during stop and go driving through towns.

The tank was only about 1/4 full to begin and I ran it down to near empty, filled it, then ran it half empty and filled it again. By the end of the trip the truck was running fine and it hasn't acted up since. I changed the fuel filter when I got to work but didn't notice anything unusual on the used one.

What do you think? Bad fuel? - something worse?

 

i have clogged a fuel filter once in my old truck, and i had to feather the throttle or it would fall on it's face. i was lucky to get 20 mph out of it. no idea otherwise, have you dumped your water seperator valve latley? (to be on the safe side)

 

I would bet it was the filter. could have been bad fuel tho. I wouldn't worry about it if its been good for a while now.

 

Ok, been home from work for a couple days, went out yesterday morning and had the exact same issue. Very week throttle response, but it will work up to highway speed.

Drove around for a couple hours and it seemed to work itself out by the time I got home. I had over half a tank of fuel this time.

Did you do the key trick to see if there are any codes.

 

Which LP do you have?

I would guess its starting to fail.

 

I have the in-tank lift pump. I haven't checked for codes yet but haven't had any warning lights come on. I'll pull out the Smarty Jr this afternoon and see if there's anything in the computer.

Was also wondering if this could be an APPS issue?

 

I would check your fuel pressure. The in-tank pump can be sucked thru, with decreased performance, when it fails.

 

Going to see if I can have an Airdog installed tomorrow. I need one anyway and if I'm still having trouble it eliminates one possibility.

 

Dont have your OE filter removed!!

 

Ok - fuel pump replaced and no noticeable effect on the problem. Engine runs fine most of the time but the throttle lag / bog is still an intermittant irritant.

 

Just talked to a guy at my usual shop - he figures this might be due to a sticky Fuel control actuator on the CP3. I did a search on these and it sounds like the FCA can get gummed up. We're going to change it out when I get back to town.

 

If it is the FCA is will benefit from increased filtration if you ever want to go that route.
