My 2005 1/2 Dodge 2500 Diesel truck will not pass Smog They say ECM not Ready have had in the shop 5 times and drove 500 mile each time how cant fix it I am in CA and they will not let me register it.

 

Do they give you a reason as to why the ECM is not ready? Is it showing any codes? Is the truck modified in a way that it throws the ECM off? A bit more info please..

 

No all stock I put a bulldog chip programer on but removed it. There are no codes

 

It all started with the transmission going out but had it rebuilt and reset the light.

 

I had the same thing happen with my 2006 Dodge CTD CR. With my truck, I ended up having to have a Dodge Technician "remove and then reload" the diagnostics into the ECM with their DRB Scanner. They never were able to tell me exactly WHY it happened, but the "remove and reload" took care of the problem. I have been told that SOMETIMES the programmers can cause this "malfunction" as an "error" is picked up by the trucks ECM.

Believe me, I feel your pain. I had a very similar issue with my BSN truck. It turns out the first guy did the pre-test (hook up and read if the different systems are ready) and told me it would fail because one of the systems wasn't ready yet. After many miles, trips to the dealer, and back to the smog shop, it turns out the system that the first guy said wasn't ready, wasn't even on my truck. Once hooked up to the fancy machine for the real smog test, it passed.

So, my question to you is, did the smog shop do an actual smog test and fail it or did they just do the pre-test?
