Early 07 5.9 Wheel Bobbel

Just recently got an 5.9 07 4x4 1 ton, i was driving home last night on good smooth HWY about 70-75 mph and it started jumping real bad in the front end felt like driver side. I got it to the shoulder of the road but could not locate any slack any where or heat on differental and hubs. After got it back on the road could not get it to do it again. Any comments as to what this might be?

First welcome to the site, second fill your signture out with what you have and what options. it helps to answer some of your questions. Now is there any kind of lift on the truck? what you had is called death wobble. One or both front tires start to shake volently. Some have corrected it getting a wheel alignment. others have changed ball joints, shocks, tie rods, and even tires to solve. Seems each truck is different. Try rotating the tires, check everything is nice and tight. Usually hitting a pot hole can send them into the death wobble mode. On my son's truck ending up changing quite a bit of stuff to get it to quit doing it. Also check steering stabizler for leaking oil. just some starting points for you. Others will have other suggestions to try.

Thanks i now know what the DW is! I'm telling you what, i wouldn't put my wife behind the wheel of this animal at all! I have never experienced anything like this before! What sux is i just purchased this truck and was on the way home from the dealership! i contacted them and i believe they are going to come pick it up.
It didn't do this when i test drove the truck. i could feel a popping feeling in the pedals of the truck but not in the steering wheel! i pointed this out to them and the replaced a gear in the steerig box i believe and it went away. Now sense the DW episode the popping has come back. it is just a very slight pop, and you can't make it do it either.

Even worse than my MegaCab, death wobble happens in the Ford SD's also. Right from the two 2003's, 2005, and the 2007 I currently have supplied by the company I work for. Ford's TSB is extensively long on the subject......."if not this, do this, if that doesn't work, do that, etc, etc, etc".

What is the mileage? Chances are the wobble may have knock the steering box out, which means the tie rods and other components could be bent. When they say they have repaired it, find a pot hole(not to deep LOL) and get one of the front tires to drive through it. If not repaired right you will induce the problem easily. Any kind of lift on the truck? Lifted trucks are more prone to this than stock trucks, but it still can happen on a stock truck.

Use the SEARCH function on DEATH WOBBLE.Should be tons of reading.Starts with the FIRST thing that hits the payment.Tires.Then work your way up one component at a time.

Well the tires need replacing for sure sense i just purchased though i figured they need to fix the issue. They replaced the steering dampner and wanted me to come pick it up but i asked them to drive it and put some miles on it to see if it would do the DW for them and as i expected it did! So, they are now looking into it more so we will see what they come up with. The truck does have a leveling kit on it, do you guys think i should take it off? at this point i'm not real sure i even want to buy the truck anymore!

Tires can be the only issue.Start with the first thing that hits the payment and work your way up.

From what I've experienced, and read on here, the leveling kits DO seem to amplify the condition. It was mentioned on here recently that BF Goodrich tires seem to have the same effect. I would tend to agree with that too.

Our steering box brace or SBS helps to correct this problem. The steering box is only held on by three bolts. They can flex and when you hit a bump the flex magnifies out through the system and the tires being on the end you get wobble.

Notice it has a K&N air filter. Some like, some don't, a lot of discussion on this forum and other diesel related forums concerning air cleaners, most test have shown that the stock filter is best, however, be your own judge. Some dealerships are very picky about honoring warrant with K&N. I know, they say the dealer has to prove?????, however, that's after the fact and why go throuht the hassel.
