I just noticed my drivebelt is falling apart at 40,000 miles. I've been hearing strange noises from the motor on occasion and now see the belt seems like it's been shaved off one side by about 1/4 inch. Also, the back side shows some damage too (split/cracked in areas). How long to the belts normally last?

So, would this be covered under warranty still or is it under the 36,000 mile cut-off? If not, I'll try to replace it myself. Any replacement tips would be very helpful and appreciated.
Just wondering, do you have a cast alternator braket or the stamped one?

Mark, it was only the earlier '03's that had the stamped piece; the newer engines had the cast bracket installed on the production line. An '04.5 should have the cast part installed.

I believe the TSB has the dates/serial numbers involved.

Ahh, I did not know that. That stamped piece was such a pos!

I have to agree with you on this one!! I just received a Mopar replacement belt from Genos for a spare and it looks "beefier?" than the one on the truck now. Even if the belts had a 100,000 mile warranty it doesn't do you any good when your in the middle of no where at 3:00am in the morning and you don't have a spare.

Here's a link to a thread over on TDR; yet ANOTHER one today - this guy had only 3000 miles on his new '05.

Just what is going on here?
