inj.pump replacement gone bad

I took my truck to the local mech. to have the pump replaced.I show up and he has it out side and its blowin! a huge plume of BLUE smoke out the pipe.

I ask him ? he dont know! I think about this for a minute and its got to be way advanced! right? the cylinders are fireing before the exhaust valve is closed?

He says he set the dowel thing,it clicked in @ tdc then removed the old pump. The new(used but known good pump) didnt have the shaft locked, that lil tab was under the screw.I dont think he knows how to tell that the IP's shaft is in proper time before he installs it to the engine.

So My question for you guys,in order to help him get my truck runnin right(hes taking it all apart right now)How do we get the IP in proper time in order to remove the lil tab so we can lock the shaft in place with that bolt? so The IP can get re installed and be timed correct.

Thank you so much,I need my truck back by Friday.Im not sure thats going to happen if we cant get the this mech clued in on the proper prosedure.

Thanks in advance,MIke.

the pump shaft is keyed. its pretty straightforward. pump gear mark "E" to mark on cam. if he didnt know it is keyed he knocked the key out.
