Does your fuel filter have to snap onto the cap?

I don't see a reason why it would but I just wanted to check and make sure I'm not missing anything.

Bought a WIX 33585XE which is listed as fitting my truck but its too small to fit on the notches on my cap.

Is there any reason other then easier removal that it needs to fit on there?

Seemed to go in and close up just fine.

I was using some filters from geno's for a while, and I had to trim the top a little to get them to fit...

Have been running that Wix filter for as long as I can remember (110,000 on truck). Some of them have fit better than others as far as snapping into the lid, but it really has no effect on the filtering.

Yes it should snap on...

but FYI WIX 33585XE (which is the correct filter) does not meet the OE specs. I wouldn't run it..

Only filters that meet OE specs are OEM, Baldwin PF7977, Donaldson P550800... Of those the Baldwin has the best ratings at 5um.

Its gotta be better then not changing it

I will order some fleetguards from Genoes but didn't have anything readily available. Get those WIX for $12 and don't wanna pay $40 at the dealer for mopar.

Yeah, look for somewhere local to get Baldwin of Donaldson.. truck stops or garages are a good starting point.

So the filter actually snapping hard into the lid is this big of a deal?? So does yours snap in tight ro just barely snap? does it fall out? The dang filter slides over the post inside and the end that faces the cap is solid. what in the world could snapping in have to do with any kind of filtering?

so for the heck of it I just called a friend who uses all baldwin and asked him if they fit it the lid tight? he told me they snap but the filter is not tight by any means and he has had 2 of the balwins not snap at all. he would put them in the canister and then spin the lid on.

as far as better than not changing it, heck yes it is. This subject has been beat to death and there are plenty of filter experts on here so do as you wish. I have run all wix filters for over 100,000 and will continue to and that is with stock injectors still and the smarty and the MP-8.

Someone please tell me about a failure they had because of the filter? I mean 100% a cause of the filter?

Mine always snap very tight, but it may just be my lid (luck of the draw).

Yep, just snaps in or "holds it" so you can screw the cap down..
Doug.

it doesn't matter if it snaps into place or not, it holds it in place to replace the lid easier. as long as you don't forget the filter, your good to go.
