Motor oil prices

Now that crude oil prices have dropped cosiderably and fuel as well, when will motor oil prices come down? I used to be able to buy a gallon of Rotella for less than 5 dollars, now its over 12.00. It seems to me that with a barrel of oil at ?45.00? instead of 150.00 the price of motor oil should be dropping. What do ya think?

I think ronc hit it!
I have been asking this same question for a few months now. You would think it should be cut in half or at least 30-40% less than it is now.
Maybe someone in the iol business will chime in.

I am in the maintenance business. I have 3 quick lubes and a general maintenance tire store. RONC hit it on the head. We have not seen the drop in oil prices like we would have expected when the barrel prices dropped. The price of motor oil has not been linear to the barrel price especially when the price per barrel dropped. Motor Oil is 1% of the refined oil. We saw increase when the SM and CJ-4 oils came out and a huge increase when the barrel went up to 140 last summer.

My supplier's stock quote is 1/10 what it was this time last year. The CEO hasn't taken a bonus for some time now.
