i was wondering how many people's truck make the squeek. My truck (45000 miles) never does it, but i have seen trucks with fewer miles do it.

Please post the mileage at which it began.

 

Not sure when it began I have 57k on the meter. I have always heard that it is a good thing. High compression engine stopping faster than the belt. I like it. I always kid that I need to have that belt checked. But I wouldn't know what to say about a truck not doing it.

 

Mine quit doing it since I switched to a gatorback belt. Can't really say I miss it.

I have had 2 .. a 99 and a 03 both autos...tend to do it more in hot weather...it is the serpentine belt slipping....they did it from the beginning. I think you will find the autos do it more than the manuals.......watch the feedback....

 

Turn of the AC or defroster and its not as bad. My new one always makes a thunk sound when it is fired up with defrost or AC on thats not as bad with it off.

 

Both my 96 and my friends 96 do it. At first it bugged me, but now I kinda like it. It's a diesel, right?

 

Mine did the same with the Goodyear Gator belt, noise quit. I got 10k on the belt, I noticed just recently it started to chirp again at shut down. I'm happy again, I like the noise.

 

I guess mine did the opposite... Chirped mainly when it was new and gradually deminished. New belt (for the Jake install) and it did it again for a while.

I kind of like the sound, myself. Back when I was a starving college student, the Freightliner at the farm I worked at during the summers did the same thing, only louder.

 

I hope mine does it for a long time. Means the compression is normal and belt is tight.

 

I just got my 01 and it did it when I bought it, 68K on the clock. I changed the belt and now it is just a little chirp, before the new belt it was too much.

 

I'm the fourth owner and it has done it since I owned it. Worried me a little until I realized what it was. The CTD chirp.

 

53,000 miles and mine has never chirped. I thought I read on here somewhere that it's usually just the autos that chirp, but I could be wrong.

 

First 5000miles did it every time. Now with 7000+, about 60% of the time. When it doesn't do it, I kinda worry. Belt looks perfect all the way around.

 

Mine almost always does it. About every 8 to 10th shut down it won't chirp, and I miss it!

 

2003 Will never make that noise at shutdown not enough compression.
