discolored fan on turbo

Hello all. About 6 months ago I took my silencer ring out and just looked at the turbo fan because I was curious, nothing caught my attention. Last week I was changing my oil and had to take the torque tube off and noticed that one of the fins was slightly colored light gray... and none of the others were. Does anyone know what this could be??? thanks.

Did you touch or rub it to see if it was dirt or oil film? Or did it look like it got hot?

It is probably the white mark that Holset paints onto them when they are manufactured.
Or it might have changed colors after time (ie got dirty).

I noticed the same thing on mine yesterday. I have no silincer ring and I was installing my AFE Stage ll Intake. I noticed one of the fins was a white color. I rubbed it and it didn't come off. I realy didn't pay much attention to it and just installed the intake. Everything seems to run fine.

I was told that is some sort of balancer paste applied by holset during the manufacturing process. If you try to rub it off you can't and mine has changed to a grey shade over time, interesting.

As N Johnson has said...I too have read that this is a balancing "powder coat"
used during manufacturing.
Not to be removed.

Eventually that white paint/powder will be eaten away by the air that passes by it.

It must be a strong paste. I have 65k miles and it looks pretty fresh.
