I'll probably stay on it until I pinpoint the source of the smell.....I'll let you know if I find it Patriot.

Like I said previously....I'm not really worried about it....but since I know it's coming from somewhere I'm hellbent on finding the problem.

I'm surprised you guys haven't noticed the smell from the crankcase vapors before. It can be especially strong right after you change the engine oil.
Haven't you heard the term "Rosmella" (Shell Rotella engine oil) which used to cause the strongest smell.
The smell is very strong, does not smell like engine oil at all since it is really blowby from the crankcase. Many think it smells like diesel fuel or exhaust.
Some guys route the road vent farther back or some close off some openings in the cowl vents to reduce the smell.

The 2003-2007 5.9L Cummins have an open crankcase breather system unlike the 6.7L Cummins. The road vent is by the oil pan on the drivers side of the engine.
When the 6.7L guys convert their closed crankcase vent system to an open system, many report this smell also.

It's most prevalent right after changing the engine oil and most prevalent with the windows up, heater or A/C system running bringing in air from the cowl vents.

Here is the cowl vent mod to reduce this smell:

I changed my oil a month ago so the "new" oil smell is far gone.......the smell I'm smelling is raw diesel fuel. Just like a fresh and large fuel leak.....only no wet spots anywhere.

I suppose for the sake of argument the person noticing a smell could route the vent tube farther back and report back whether it improved the situation or not . . . .

I haven't had this smell before and if it was coming from the crankcase vent you would think I would of had it for ever not just the last couple weeks.
