Diesel smell in cab
Diesel smell in cab
I ve read a bunch of post but still stumped, i get a diesel fuel smell when I start up and shut down and I don't see it leaking anywhere it just smells like raw diesel like I am sitting at the pump. I did put a little bio diesel in my tank here about a month and a half ago but I wouldn't think that would do it, it was like 95% regular diesel and 5% bio could that do it, I have a 05. Were would you suggest the first place to look. Thanks
This would be my guess as well...I have heard of people smelling exhaust in the cab due to a cracked exhaust manifold. But it sounds like you have a crack/ leak in your injector line if your smelling raw fuel. Seems to happen on the reg with these 3rd gens. Mine let go at 45K miles...get you a spare one as back-up if and when you find this to be the problem. Easy fix if you have it on you!
However, as for the injector lines...look for the copper colored lines that enter the drivers side of the block just under the valve cover (they will have blue plastic clips holding them in place).
Count from the front of the engine back to the firewall (1, 2, 3, etc...)
If I were a betting man, I beleive you will find it to be #4...
Good luck!

I've had a similar issue since the weather turned cooler. If left ideling and the heater or de-froster turned on I can smell raw fuel. Goes away almost instantly after take-off. Have searched everywhere in the engine bay and absolutely nothing is even remotely wet. Not making any oil so I can rule out injector issues. No CP3 weep. Injector lines are fine. No fuel lines seeping. I'm not super worried about it but it is a new issue and has me looking.
What you guys are likely smelling is the oil vapors from the crankcase vent tube from under the truck.
Especially since it's colder weather now and if you have recently changed the engine oil.

Just talked to a diesel mechanic and he looked everywhere and the only wet spot he found was on the end of the head and it didn't smell like diesel and didn't find anything else, he said if it was leaking on a injector I wouldn't be getting the smell in cab unless it was coming out of the cover which it is not and no diesel in oil so he was stumped to and said he would just drive it and he wouldn't worry about it to much.

The oil vapors from my breather tube smell like oil.....not fuel. Issue has me stumped as well. Double checked everything a few minutes ago with engine running and I can find nothing wet....close doors and roll up windows and turn on vents (no a/c) and within a couple minutes of idling......smell of fuel hits my nose. Like I said previously....I'm not really worried about it....but since I know it's coming from somewhere I'm hellbent on finding the problem.
