That sounds to good to be true. I agree with other posters that people do trade in junk and disclose nothing, therefore the dealer takes it in the can, however, them coming off the hip with such an aggressive offer sounds to me that they had some prior knowledge of the condition of your vehicle and that they are back pedaling real hard to keep it within the dealership.
Good luck, I hope I am wrong

Not sure if this will help, but read on. It might............................
if it were me, i would take the truck back, and let them find you another one, off lease or such, and they will finance with you again.
sounds to me like the dealership is good, and will work with you, not easy to come by these days.
i know the smaller ones don't care once they get your money.
you take your chances with a truck that might have been written off, could be good for a while, but things never seem to be the same, you will put miles on that truck and front end parts will wear faster, and front end parts are not cheap, and could be dangerous in the long run.

i thought car fax had some deal about if they screwed up they would do something about it. i wouldnt let them off the hook about because they dropped the ball. isnt that what they are supposed to prevent.
I think the dealer is really trying to help you here. Let them take a good look under the truck. It may be just fine if it was repaired at a decent facility. Have you seen any evidence of body repairs under the truck?
Glad to hear they will work with you. I was going to pay mine off cash a week after a financed it figuring it would help my credit, but he said I had to make 3 payments first before it would go towards my credit, so that's what I did.
Don't keep the truck! Give it back, get your $5,000 & use it as a down payment on a different one from same dealer. Tell them they owe you a SMOKIN' deal for all this B.S. But, I'd call carfax 1st, & document EVERY name, time & info. that pertains to the situation. Good luck & keep us posted.
I also agree with the majority of posts here, that this truck, while it seems an honest mistake by the dealer, needs to be out of your hands....it's more trouble than it's worth. CarFax holds some of the blame here, if they didn't detect this error. Just a note on that - I have seen printed "doctored" carfax reports in used-car dealers, and then gone home to my own carfax account and run the same vechile. Guess what? A whole other page telling of salvage titles, etc. i would only trust a carfax I ran myself, on my private account.
As for the truck and finances - could you possibly do with an older unit for a while? Perhaps the dealer could help you find a second-gen truck, get that paid off, then look for a good pre-'07 Cummins that has not had this sort of history.
Good luck with all this...
