Delayed codes?
During my code checking routine today I got the following:
P0633 - SKIM key not programmed in PCM
P0513 - Invalid Skim Key
P0251 - Injection pump fuel valve feedback
P0193 - Fuel rail pressure sensor high
I have gotten the SKIM key codes in the past after it has been at the dealer. I think it is because they try to use another customer's key to start the truck. The truck was at the dealer 3 weeks ago, but suddenly the code shows up.
The P0251 must have happened a couple weeks ago when I was fiddling around with the FCA unplugged. It threw a CEL but it eventually went out. No code at the time, however the code finally showed up today.
Same thing for the P0193. I got a CEL when I installed my Quad RP/FP gauge a couple weeks ago, and the light eventually went out after I got done fiddling with a bad connection in the plug. No code at the time, but now it shows up today.
So why did it take so long for the codes to register? I don't check every day, but I know I have checked several times over the last couple of weeks. All I ever got on the previous attempts was 'done'.

If your CEL is coming on and you are not "clearing the code" with a scantool, but just driving it till you reach enough drive cycles to have the light go out on it's own?? The ECM stores all inactive codes until they are cleared with a scantool.
I left my IAT sensor unplugged one day, the check engine light stayed on for a few days cause my laptop was not working...when I did finally check it with the scantool the IAT code was still there but the CEL had not been on since the first few days...cleared it and never saw it again...
I also heard that the new trucks wont run if you have a code that keeps coming and going on it's own, after X amount of times the truck wont start till the codes are read and cleared...but this is just something I heard I can not confirm it.

Well see I had the opposite problem. The CEL was on but no codes showed up until recently...well after the CEL had gone out on its own.
To add mystery to this issue, I checked codes again today. P0251 was gone, but the other three were still stored???

buy a scanner that clears codes and maybe they wont keep popping up intermittently.
it is weird that they come and go but if you are getting a CEL I would suspect something is going on.....
BTW I was kinda wondering if when you get a invalid skim that it also throw the fuel codes cause of the ant-theft system cutting power????
just thinking out loud here...

Yeah I am beginning to think I should just get a decent scanner. After this ordeal I am not sure I trust the key trick anymore. It baffles me why I couldn't read any codes with the CEL on, but then two weeks later I finally get the codes when there is no CEL. And then one code disappears....
Not 100% sure about the SKIM deal, but I know I caused the fuel system codes myself. The other time I got a SKIM code was also after a trip to the dealer. I guess I need to get everything cleared and see what happens....

if you have a laptop and you dont want to break the bank but DO want a good Scantool I suggest this....
http://www.autoenginuity.com/
this is what I use
it does most all the things you need..
data logging
freezeframe
clears codes (all codes, not just "P" codes)
reads codes (all codes not just "P" codes)
it also gives target pressures and ranges is is a huge plus when you start diagnosing
and it comes with a cool little speed tracer tool!!!
BTW you can buy the scantool for a little cheaper on E-bay and it still comes from AE themselves.

53 ******, with the autoenginuity, are you able to do the injector shutoff/isolation test ? It's so easy to spend $600 on parts-swapping, I'd be real inclined to go with that autoenginuity package. - curtis
I dont know of ANY scantool that does???besides DRB and starscan.
AE is pretty cool I have called and talked to them many times....they might beable to make it an update but I dont know for sure.
