Dark Red Gunk in Fuel Filter Canister?

Anyone heard of alge(spelling) growing in the fuel filter canister. Last filter change I looked down in it and there was dark red very thick like syrup in the bottom. Not a lot but enough to make me wonder. I have heard of an additive to kill and remove alge that grows in the fuel. Anyone know where I can get some of this additive?

Could it be the MMO I'm mixing with my Power Service additive?

thanks Jamie

I don't think it's alge either. It would not be thick like that. I would think it would be the MMO,,,,but I'm no expert. What's the MMO stuff look like before you put it in. Is it red. When I talked to a power service tech(maker's of the fuel additive's) he said that the alge was the black stuff in the filter. It would also be like that in the tank. Power service sell's a biocide package to kill the alge. You can get it from West Marine if you happen to have one of those near you. The package is kinda hard to find. I think you can also get it from Power Service directly.

Go to powerservice.com and click on products, then product's by name, then diesel fuel polishing kit. Good luck.

Sounds like a combination of both.

Algae that has been discolored by the MMO, unless you've had untaxed red fuel in your tank recently?

Algae is usually black snot looking stuff.

The little black dots on the fuel filter are "asphaltines", normal to see them in Diesel Fuel.
