I have a bit over 45,000 miles running it. I know that is not many miles but I like Valvoline oil as it has always served me well.
I just did an oil analysis with 5,000 miles on the oil and everything was normal and no corrective action required.
This is the dino version as according to the one Cummins shop I went to he stated most people don't need the synthetic and this was in a place that sees -20 to -40 degrees in the winter. He said he only had a couple of guys that ran the synthetic.
It may not be the best oil available but it is as good as any other out there for your truck according to Cummins.

I have been running this since first oil change and has served me well so far. My boss used the same in his two cummins on the charter boat he runs as well. He has many hours on those motors and says for the money you wont be sorry you used it.
There is no good, better, best in todays oils. Even the synthetic guys will try and tell you different. Refining has become so superior today compared to yesteryear there is no comparision. With superior refined oils and superior additive packages from chemical research the regular oils rank right up there with synthetics. Remember even synthetics come from petroleum bases.
Don't be fooled by advertising hype and marketers trying to gain a foot hold in todays high pace world. They will tell you everything you want to hear even come so close as to lie about their product through twisted words.
Even your wal-mart oils have been tested and ranked as high as name brand oils. Don't beleave me do some research. Who do you think makes wal-mart brand oils, wal-mart? NO. wal-mart buys their oils from other oil companies and repackages it under super tech brand oil.

The way Valvoline positions their diesel products is as follows
Allfleet 15w40- Good
Cummins Premium Blue 15w40- Better
Cummins Premium Blue Extreme Synthetic 5w40- Best.
Most oil companies have a fleet oil, a better and then a synthetic. Premium Blue is Valvoline's offering to compete with Rotella, Delvac and the like.
I agree with Bluebell's post above to a degree. Different brands don't give appreciable performance and protection in the same category. (i.e. one synthetic is not significantly better than the next.) The same goes for oil filters. (don't go cheap here though) The important thing is do take a look at your owners manual and follow the periodic maintenance intervals. Thats where you can really preserve your vehicle for a good long time. I have several maintenance shops, I won't go into the main brand we sell because I don't want to get into a silly brand war. I will tell you that we carry several brands other than the main brand because their is customer demand. The only oil related problems that we see is when customers do not follow their maintenance guide and fail to change their oil.
