Cummins 8yr/136,000 mile warranty?!!
Cummins 8yr/136,000 mile warranty?!!
First I thought I would say hi, I'm back after a little while away ( tried the jeep thing) . I am the proud owner of an 06 qc, 4x4 big horn. I can't take all the credit for this info ( I found it posted on another board) but I did verify it's true. If you look on page 9 ( for the 06 at least) in the warranty book that you have you will see that the Cummins/chrysler 5yr/100k starts AFTER the 3yr/36k bumper to bumper ENDS!! after you pick yourself back up off the floor go see for yourself. I read the book 3 times and it states that ,this written warranty is the only implied warranty meaning the dealer can't show you in his computer anything that says other. I am not sure what years this applies to but it looks like 99,00,01,02,06 all have it in there someware. sorry for the long post. It's great to be back!!
If you read it again you may find that it starts after the 3/36, but on my 05 it goes until the truck reaches 7yr/100,000mi. I may be wrong, but it sounds like yours is only good util the truck reaces 5yr/100,000mi. The warranties aren't added together. The cummins warranty just starts after the dodge warranty is over, so that you don't have two warranties at once. Like I said it goes until you reach that milestone.
The **** dealer
I was in the dealership the other day getting my high idle activated, which took an hour, I'd say about 55 minutes too long but that's another story. The service manager told me my 04 only has a 3 year 36,000 mile warrenty. I am almost posative he was wrong and told him that, but what the hell do I know, he is the service manager after all.

I know my '05 has a 3 year bumper to bumper, and 7 year powertrain warranty. However, '05 is the last model year to have that 7 year powertrain warranty. The service technician may have been confused on that.

Yeah the text can be a little confusing. But I know they are not added together. It basically just means that Dodge is responsible for all problems - truck related or powertrain related - up until 3yr/36k, and after that (and until 5yrs/100k miles) Cummins warranty comes into play. Even I am confused though - Cummins dealers will not work on your engine from what I understand, because of all the electronic engine control modules that only Chrysler has the tools to read/fix. So even though it's the "Cummins" warranty, Dodge dealers are still the ones that handle the repairs????

Engine warranty
On my '06 megacab I was told by my dealer that the 100,000 mile warranty on my engine did not start until my 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty was up. Of course they could have told me wrong too! I ask " does this mean the motor has a 136,000 mile warranty?". I was told "Yes".
If everything keeps going like it is now I wont ever have to find out. I am at 51,000 miles so far with no problems. Ok, wheres some wood to knock on?????

I saw that too (and it's ambiguous at best) but...if you were to continue looking further in the manual it specifically states that the 100K warranty starts when the vehicle gets put into service and yes, it also states that AFTER the 36K Dodge warranty the truck can have engine warranty work done by Cummins. This may be specific to the '06 though.
Ok this is my take and what happened to me.
96 ctd almost 7 years old 90K motor went.......
at the time the warrenty was 3/36 b to b 7/70 power 5/100 motor
Like most cases I was covered by the 7/70 and 5/100 to get a free motor
the 03 also has the same and I got it from Dodge, they say that the 5/100 is trumped by the 7/70 and because the 5/100 means if you are over the 5 years on the motor but under the 100k then it extends to 7 years as part of the 7/70.
so in my case 6 year 10 months 90k was under the 7 years from dodge and under 100k motor warrenty so = freebe to the tune of 10-12 K $ when it was all said and done.
When I got the 03 it was on paper the 5/100 was really a 7/100 if the miles and years were under the max limit. SO then if you had the 7/70 and a CTD it made you warrenty extend from the 7/70 to 7/100 but the last 30k are for motor only.
Hope this helps.
