If your looking to buy a 600 you better take a good luck charm or have your palm read before you go because you could very well end up with a fuel guzzler like most or somewhat decent mpg's like a very few. On the bright side , unlike us who bought the first ones, atleast you know up front what you could end up with.

Vibration Fixed

Highway Vibration Fixed
It has taken six months, ten service trips and countless hours on the phone with Dodge , American Axle and different dealers but heres what has taken the vibration away at expressway speeds.
Its the very first thing I told them when I took it in for the first time. The transfer case. I have had four rear driveshafts in, one front shaft and a new rear ring, pinion, bearings and now the transfer case. This has taken the vibration out about 95%. There still is a slight vibration when you are under throttle till you reach your maitained highway speed then it subsides. This I believe is still the rear driveshaft but when they come out with a larger dampner on the shaft I think it will be gone also. If you can move the dampner on the driveshaft (where it slips on to the transfer case tailshaft ) up about a 1/8 to a 1/4 inch by hitting it with your palm of your hand its too sloppy. This is the second truck this engineer has replaced the transfer case on and on both trucks it has solved the vibration. It took a lot of complaining at the dealer level before the Dodge engineer got invloved. But now Im almost vibration free and this truck is great.

From 5-80 mph my truck is very smooth. The motor, wheels, drivetrain and any other thing that spins must be balanced on mine.

This implies there are no 2K/70MPH issues with the RAM 2x4 but only us 4x4's.
I'd be interested in finding out if that's the case.
I know mine seems to have a vibration at the 2K/70mph mark. Haven't driven it enough to see what the entire vibration range is or if it's bad enough to worry about.
My brand new RAM seems to be the wife's vehicle

STILL a vibration

Got my truck back last night. They have now rebalanced both drive shafts. While I think the vibration is minimally improved, I still have it and the drone. Next step,..who knows. I'll porobably push for the transfer case as per a couple posts,...it solved their problem. This is quite weird. I put it in tow mode at the same rpm and no vibration and no drone. Last night I test drove it after I picked it up and it actually seems like especially the drone is markedly worse if you power on up to say 75 or so and then just let off the pedal so as to gently reduce speed and it is quite obvious with the drone until it gets to 68 and then it's gone. Kind of like when I recall testing a bad u-joint years ago and it would vibrate worse when the speed was coming down rather than when it was under power accelerating. Discusted!

Does it Drone in neutral any????Same rpm's?Mine did and it was 90%that hydro hose.Exhaust also.Changing that helped. Also in past I had SEVERAL RWD Caddys drone and vibrate some. There was a HUGE TSB on these and NOT one part of it I WAS TOLD fixed any two cars.I tried getting SHAFTS rebalanced at a LARGE driveline shop I used many times before. They didn't change much in noise or speed drone ocurred.REPLACED SHAFTS WITH NEW in both auto's and it was GONE.Rep told me I was wasting G.M.s money and HE WOULD rather BUY BACK both cars.Shafts were like $1200 per.Owners were FLOORED that he would rather buy back then attempt repair.I think I'd drive a NEW ONE on the lot (same trucks etc.gearing and all)and if ONE dosen't have a problem swap shafts and then transfer case.

600 vibration

I haven't tried kicking it in neutral. I'll do that. They say they are evaluating this situation as soooooo many have it and asked me to hold tight for a few weeks as they said a tsb will probably come out on the fix. Guess I'll do that as they have had the truck as much as I have the past 3 weeks. Tks for input.

Try it in neutral. Not rolling.Mine did it in neutral right on 1950 rpm or so.Just like turning a switch on.

My Dad has an '03 shortbed quad cab with the 48RE auto, has the vibration at about 65 mph, quits above 70..

Actions by dealer:
1. reshim rear-end,
Also claimed the pre-load was too light?
2.replace drive shaft
3.Informed Dad that they knew it was not fixed, just have to wait and see what DC wanted them to do next

He is starting to wish that he had his '93 back.

Duane W.

edit:
Oh yea, its a 4x4
