A couple of basic questions.

OK, I am a new Cummins owner and have a couple of beginner questions.

1. At what speed does you torque converter lock up? I ask because when I bought the truck it already had 295 tires on it and the speedometer was off. I took it in and had the dealer recalibrate it and now the TC locks up at a slightly different speed.

2. How much vibration should I expect at idle? As soon as I let off the gas pedal to coast or come to a stop I have enough vibration to shake the keys in the ignition. I don't think it is too excessive for a diesel but figured I'd ask.

Thanks in advance.

First of all theres no g in Cummins.

After a re-flash for tire size it should lock at a different speed.

Vibration at idle is normal. The stacks may be adding to it.

Nick,

Thanks for the info, I was wondering the same about the stacks. Sorry for the misspell. Typing a little fast I guess.

The TC lock up changed by about 1-2 mph it seem.

Thanks.

Welcome to DTR! A little shaking is normal, but shaking enough to rattle your keys? I don't know, don't have any experience with stacks but I can't imagine it causing that much shake. Maybe someone else will chime in here on this one. As far as the TC lockup, that sounds normal!

Hmm... Do you have a hard knock at idle or just above it? The engine should shake a little at idle, but not so bad that it's shaking mirrors/keys or anything.

No hard knock, it just shakes loose keys that are together on the key ring that hangs from the ignition. I think the stacks might have something to do w/ it, as stated above. After checking they might be vibrating where they come through the bed.

Anyone know what mph their TC locks up?

Should be 48 mph, or a little higher if your accelerating hard.

There is a Technical Service Bulletin Concerning excessive vibration at Idle.
It is TSB18-015-05 REV.A
It involves replacing the dual mass flywheel

Jestes, thanks it looks like mine locks around 52. I wish it were a little lower, as some of the roads I travel that speed is a little too high.

Mike, no flywheel, automatic trans.

Thanks guys.
