coolant leak, is it common?

i have been parked on concrete for the past couple days and have noticed a large spot under my engine. its coolant dripping from the inspection cover on the bellhousing, its running down from the passengers side of the motor somewhere and is gathering on the bottom edge of the block above the oil pan then running down and under the bottom of the bellhousing.

is there a common place for coolant to leak on the passengers side of the motor anywhere? any help would be great, thanks.

Evidently it is quite common. I just had it start leaking on me last month (20 mos old). There is a stainless in appearance coupling on the cooling line that has 2 hose clamps on it and that is where the coolant is prone to leak from. Its on the passenger side, looking down the engine block, behind the turbo, below the trans dipstick if I remember correctly. Just loosen the hose clamps and re-seat; that fixed it for me.

What kind of tools did you use to get at the clamps? I cant get anything to fit the clamps well and get much torque on them. ???

I used one of those cheap ratcheting screwdrivers with the socket adapter but I cant remember the size of the socket; 5/16 maybe. It can be a PITA depending on the orientation of the hose-clamp. It wouldnt budge just trying to tighten, loosen first, re-seat and tighten.

Yepper. . that little two inch hose behind the turbo. . .Dodge charges $17 if you buy it or for me still warrantied . . . .no more leaky. . . .got a new stearing box at the same time. . .it was leaking too. Dealer treated me right and covered it even though I have slightly oversize tires.

That little hose is a warranty item, my dealership just replaced mine. I had already tightened it a couple of times. I used a wrached and a 5/16 socket, first loosened it, reoriented it a little and also reoriented the clamps to make tightening them easier.

FYI, the block heater is up front on the passenger side, in behind the oil filter.

Mine leaked as well, warranty covered replacement at about 70,000 but it actually started leaking at about 50,000.

Everyone who experiences this leak seems to have an 06.

Several threads on it.
