The flow is out the head, into the core, into the water pump.

I don't know why you couldn't, just don't back flush it into the head.

I wasn't sure of the direction I wanted to remove both hoses and just flush thru them as I am getting ready to change the coolant and install the bypass

cminzey- what kind of bypass are you going to be installing? I will be flushing my coolant and installing a filter system soon as well, using only distilled water.

Good reads, but neither really apply to use. HOAT doesn't use SCA's, at least not the kind found in the replenishing filters, and we don't have wet sleeve liners.

When you said that you were installing the bypass, I was thinking that you were installing one of the shiny $400 kits as well as the coolant filter system. I am going to install the coolant filter system and it will double as my "cooling system bypass" as well. Kill two birds with one stone, because as I said before I have no plans of modding my truck.

AH didn't you use 3/8 out of the head to the base and then 5/8 for your return to the heater hose

Mine is 3/8" off the head into the filter and then 3/8" out of the filter into the heater hose.

I just changed my filter this past weekend. It had 17,600 miles on it and was still flowing just fine. I will be getting my filter cutter this week and will post pics.

^^ with the filter mounted that high would the two shutoff valves still be necessary?

I ran 3/8" to and from the head, and it dumps into the 5/8" heater core return.

I don't get putting a filter, of any kind, over the exhaust manifold... But then again I am trying to do everything I can to keep the engine bay cool. Otherwise it looks great! Hopefully you flushed the fool out of your motor I hear HOAT doesn't play well with others.

it turns to a nice mud consistancy and NOT fun to try and clear out. hoses swell too.

I didn't use shutoff valves where mine is located. When I changed the filter I lost maybe 1/2 cup of fluid is all. For me, the valves would have been a waste of money.

Totally agree, awesome job on the install. I'm also not a fan of anything over the manifold. Not for fire reasons, but heat reasons when slow going.
