converter and vb

With the mod I have would I be ok to just install a converter and a vb or am I just wasting my time? I only run my smarty on 3 on revo but would like to turn it up sometime just to play not run it all the time.

What do you do with the truck? Is it just a daily driver and occasionally street play toy, do you tow regularly? - if fairly light then TC/VB may be OK, but if any drag racing, sled pulling, or heavy towing are involved definately spring for the full build with billet shafts and flexplate.
