Clutch Install

After spinning out my stocker clutch I am finally changing to a SB G56-OFEK kit. Don't have enough time to do myself so anyone of the Canadian forum members know where it can be done near Calgary? Grateful if you can provide a lead. Need to get it done soon as 5th wheel season is coming.

Thanks
Barry

Found a dude in my local town. Looked at the clutch kit today as it will be installed next week. Brutal looking clutch that SB unit (G56-OFEK). Will report on the difference end of next week.

Make sure they FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. The shop that did mine screwed the pooch and had the trans in and out and back in so many times they tore the shift tower boot($103.00) and I didn't find this out for a week or so, when the fluid started dripping off the trans onto my driveway. And all because they didn't read the instructions which stated that a shim has to be removed from the crankshaft. This caused a vibration that had 'em scratching their heads for the better part of a day, until they finally called South Bend. Two years later the pilot bearing had walked out of the bore and the hub tore out of the disk. The flywheel also came out with a bunch of the starter gear teeth chewed up. I have since changed to a dual-disk Valair. Make sure YOU read the instructions inside-out and backwards so you know what to call 'em on if the clutch acts up. The shop that ruined mine also folded a month after my install, leaving me no recourse. Don't get stung. Best of luck.

Gadget - sorry to hear about your bad experience. I used a guy who knows a hell of a lot about Dodges/Cummins. He even confirmed that they run the disk up and down the input shaft spline to ensure it is free to avoid binding when depressing the pedal and hence making it difficult to get in gear. They have many years of experience but how many SB clutches they have installed I do not know. They did know a lot about it when I delivered the truck to them and queried them. Friend drove the truck home for me as I am out of town. He said it felt good and he drives a semi for a living.

So the results are:
- it has a heavier pedal but not too bad when you get used to it.
- Clutch grabs a little if you let it out too fast
- the most important. It does not slip even pulling my 5er from storage this morning. No vibes or anything unusual to report
- Has a gear chatter if I am idling in 1st or 2nd gear. Much like trucks used to.
- Runs smooth the same as the dual mass system was.
- No gearbox chatter when shutting down now.
Was an excellent install and as I stated in the earlier post, the guy who did it seems to know his stuff about everything to do with CTD powered Dodges.
