I thought I had a bad slave cylinder because the truck would lurch forward when I pushed the clutch in. It also didn't want to shift unless I pumped the clutch. I replaced the slave and master cylinder as an assemble with a factory original. It did not change the problem. I ordered a new clutch kit through the store here, it's sitting here ready to go in but I'd like to figure out what went wrong before I throw it in and maybe still have a problem when I'm done. The clutch, pressure plate and flywheel look good to me aside from a hand full of hot spots. The fingers on the pressure look good. The springs all have a little play in them but no more than 1/32 of an inch. The pilot bearing was dry and had some metal shavings around the outside of the bearing, on the flywheel. The only thing I can think of is the throw out bearing must be the culprit. It sounds dry but turns easily. It's really sad because there's tons of clutch left. Give me your thoughts please.

I need to see the pressure plate on the flat to see if the fingers are even that will tell if you are haveing problems there maybe more pressure on one side than the other. Also check the rivets to see if there loose! Resurface the flywheel and install the HD pilot bearing has to be done at a machine shop

The fingers looked good when the PP was bolted down to the block. There was a little difference in a couple, maybe 1/16". I'll check the rivets more thoroughly but they looked good at first glance. Thanks for the feedback.

DB, in the third picture look at the 1:30 and 6:30 positions. The wear at those two locations looks off a little, like they wore a little more than anywhere else. One other note, there was no slipping with the clutch. The engagement was solid and the truck pulled fine. The lurch I talked about was only with the clutch peddle depressed.
T raddy buddy! Throw out bearing would act as you describe, no dog issues right? tight shift?
got to agree with DB, uneven pressure causes out of alignment, hence more pressure possibly at the bearing control point.
re surface fer sure, new springs if over 125 K miles.
missya buddy ANDI have a shop, no driveway gravel on the back of yer sweaty t shirt...lol

I'm in agreement that uneven spring disengagement from the pressure plate is your most likely culprit. Make sure you resurface that flywheel before reinstalling. Pressure plate issues like this are not uncommon.

Looking to start the re-install tomorrow after I do the rear main. I'm not going back stock, there's a new Southbend sitting here. I'd love to do a how-to but it's 104 here and I'm doing good to deal with the heat let alone a camera too.
