Clutch is gone

Hello All,

My clutch went out this morning at 40701 miles. sigh

Is there a good shop in SLC I can take it?

I aslo want to call around and see what the prices are to put in a South Bend in. Do you know some shops for this swap?

I am wondering if since the tranny is out, if I should get the taller 6th gear in the later model.

I don't remember the ratio but IIRC it is in the 07.5 and up G-56's.

To the OP... if you can do it I say go for it. I would and probably will when I do my clutch.

I don't remember what the differnt number is but I know I have the first generation G56 that has the .74 in it instead of the .79. Those numbers could be reversed. But it gains you something like 200 RPM in 6th.

I went to 285-75-17's. Good compromise.

I can not find the posts, or I read it on tdr. I do not have a login to tdr. I might pay for one to get the info. I do not know if it is easy or not.

none, same driving as my 94 that has the original clutch and has 171,000 miles on it.

I pull a 5er about 10 times a year and 6000lb boat about 20 times. It comutes to work.

But thanks for your constructive comments on the thead.

I assume you truck is stock. Put on a set of 35's and reap the rewards on fuel mileage and lower interstate towing RPM's. I cant imagine the cost to change out 6th gear. My truck currently has 170,000 with stock clutch and mild power adders. Towed my 6k pound boat from coast to coast about 4 months ago with no issues. I can slip the clutch at will, but I've learned to drive it so it doesn't slip. My next upgrade will be a Southbend clutch , but still not sure which one. Good luck. BTW, can you make it through gaurdsman's pass yet? It's a beautiful drive....
