"check gages" flash

New to the forum... First time diesel owner.

I've got an '03 H.O. w/ 106k miles on it. I was stopped at a light and noticed my check gages light flash. Stock oil pressure gage maintained 40 psi while idling. I pulled over as soon as I could. Checked everything out, no oil visible on block. Smelled oil and couldn't smell diesel, but I don't really know what I'm smelling for. Would the diesel smell strong if it was in there? I drove it home(5 or so miles) and the warning light flashed once more, but never stayed on. What is happening? I read in other threads that when it stays on it is most likely an injector.

It's got a Bullydog Torque Dog chip on it....

Welcome to the group, woodzy, you'll find tons of info here. Did you purchase this truck new? Great truck, I've got one. Fill in your signiture so we can see what all you have.

The '03 had an issue where the "Check Guages" light would flash on then off real quick. The TSB can be found here http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2003/08-004-03.htm but since your HO is out of warrantee it will be out of your pocket if you decide to take care of it. Myself, I live with it. I don't consider it broke enough to hand it over to the dealer.

Ditto what he said (both the welcome, and the solution).

Mine had that problem, and dealer did the TSB/reflash to fix it. Since yours is out of warranty, you would have to talk to the dealer. If you have a relationship with the place you bought it, maybe they would do it for cheap...

I don't think it would hurt anything to not get it fixed, but I found it really annoying (a brief blink of a warning light while you are driving... and it's gone by the time you take your eyes off the road).

Its a 1/2 hour labor (according to the TSB) unless your dealer has a minimum. But, like Jeff said, if you have a relationship with the dealer he may just toss it in. Especially if you just bought it from him or use him on a regular basis.

Good Luck
