Check engine light came on after a cold start.

So I fire my truck up yesterday morning, it had been plugged in for more than 12 hours.

Outside temp was -33F.

Grid heater ran, started truck, truck stumbled a bit, seemed to run ok for 20 seconds or so< iwas walking back to the house and it quit.

Ran the grid heater 2 more times, then started, truck seemed to run fine SO I went back inside to let it warm up.

When I came back out after 10-15 minutes, my check engine light was on.

I figured it had something to do with the stalling.

I drove 250 miles home, did the key cycle thing at a fuel stop and found

P 0524
and
P2509

So I looked those codes up and freaked out a little when I read "Low oil pressure"

Darted outside and found the oil level to be normal.

(I was worried I had a bad injector and was making oil since the truck seemed excessively hard on fuel yesterday)

Any insight as to why this might have happened?

What weight of oil are you running. Possible too thick for extreme cold.

What a lot of people forget or don't know is that if the oil they are using has a pour point of -30 below then the oils flow point is 25 degrees warmer so the flow point is -5 below. Thus at start up with the temp being at -33 below zero the engine may not have full oil flow.

5W 40 Synthetic is what I'm using, it gets cold here. I'm used to it.

This is the first time I have had this issue happen though.

(and It's been started much colder)

i just had the same problem the other day..like 10 seconds after i started it the oil pressure guage went right down then it said check guages so i reved it up and it came back up but 200 kms later my check engine light comes on i check the codes and i have p0524 p2509 and p0193 it was -35c truck had sat for more then 2 weeks not plugged in.. i cleared those codes its ran fine other than using a lot of fuel but i think its just because it was so cold out, drove another 500kms had 1/4 tank let so i fueled up drove another 100 kms and then my truck started poping and missin and losing power and then gettin power back and then it even shut off on me.. i think my fuel was jelling as i toped it back up again and added soem howes conditioner and its slowly starting to run better again..but like your truck mines started fine in colder before and ive never plugged my truck in untill now

That's good but one other thing many over look is the oil filter they use. If you look at the number and size of the holes in a Fleetguard oil filter and then some of the other brands you will see they are not all equal.

This info came right from Shell. The typical pour point for Shell Rotella T Synthetic Oil SAE 5W-40 is -33F (-36C)

Shew thats cold! Looking through some of Amsoils stuff they list their diesel 5W-30's pour point as -58F and their 5W-40 as -47F.

Mine kicks the check engine light once in a while when is cold (5 degrees). It also clears after a few warm-up cycles. I checked my codes and it had one for Battery Temp Sensor?
