changing clutch master cylinder on an '03

Okay, so I bought a new clutch master cylinder assembly and thought that I would change it today. I didn't mess with it long, but how in the world do you remove the shaft from the pedal arm? It's got one of those funky plastic clips and the new one didn't come with a replacement, so I don't want to screw the old one up. The manual shows a pin to remove, but that's not the case, it's a barbed clip of some sort.

I'm leaving for California on Wednesday, so I appreciate any tips, Thanks!
