Exclamation

Are you referring to the rear diff. carrier bearings.
If so, you should have had the pinion bearing`s done too.
Half the job the first time = a complete job the second time.
If you have over 50 K on the diff. now, and need to go back in. Do a complete rebuild with ring and pinion gear. My.02

I dont know if it is on the rear diff or what all I know is that they call it a carrier bearing and I am getting that humming like I did last time when it was a carrier bearing and I only have 18000 miles on truck luckily it is still under warranty, I was just wondering if anyone else was having the same problems.

the carrier bearing is the connection of the two drive shafts the one leaving the trans, and the other headed to the rear end. The cannot place one shaft because of length and angle so hence two drive shafts. Is your truck lifted and oversize tires? this will cause a problem if you do not have the carrier bearing shimmed to compensate angle on pinion.

patriot, no my shutters but no howling, did you check the drive shafts to see if one is bent or out of round, easy way is jack up the rear and run some chalk lines around the drive shafts and see if one is out of spec with a timing light. Or just take it to the dealer and have them check it. Same thing happened on a gm and it took about four bearings before the figured it out.

Don't leave U-joints out of the mix too. Mine made some awful noises when one was going out. So I installed some new ones with grease fittings.

I had my front carrier bearing replace for a humming noise it sounded as if it was in four wheel drive. They replace the carrier bearings and the ring and pinion. After about a thousand miles it was back in the shop for the same noise. This time they replaced the carrier the ring and pinion and all the bearing noise is gone for now.
