Back 4-5 months ago I had my truck in the shop getting the fuel actuator changed out, while their the mechanic working on my truck said he could not hear the turbo and he cleaned and oiled the wastegate, BIG Difference, I could hear it real good and it had more power. Now, 4-5 months later it's to the point where I can't hear it again and the power seems to be less. My question is, should I just replace the wastegate. I see them all the time in magazines for sell and they seem pretty reasonable. If I do this will it void my cummins warranty. I should also mention that my truck is stock, except a straight pipe. Also, what exactly does this do, just regulate how much boost the turbo puts out. If I should replace it, can I do it myself.

I'm guessing he oiled the wastegate actuator. The wastegate itself is built into the turbo. There are external gates but I don't think any trucks have them stock.

 

If your worried about voiding your cummins warranty....why dont you use it and get it replaced? Are you going to buy an aftermarket or oem?

 

The year is 2003. Yes, I guess he did oil it. Does my problem seem like it can fixed by replacing this.
