so im having the hard starting problem that it seems like a ton of 2003 owners are experiencing. so looking online for injectors, they seem to go for ~$390 for new stock replacements. I see that on Performance Diesel Inc.'s website, they have reman injectors, they are $1,020 for a set of 6 (so $170ea), and i remember seeing injectors on another site (that i cant seem to find) injectors for $199ea.


whats the deal with the price fluctuation on these injectors???

 

You get em from Bosch and they'll gouge ya.

 

A LOT of times , all you are getting is the tips. Make sure you are getting the entire injector, or contact DonM on here to get yours rebuilt with new tips.....thats my plan!

 

Send them to DonM he can rebuild them and put some tips in for ya. Or try Ross @ DDP.

 

Injectors flux from F1 diesel seems to please everyone that has them. I think they are $1100 for 6...

 

Explain your hard start a little more. Does the truck just crank over more than it should? If so, change your crank sensor, 20 bucks, fixed my '06 and dad's '03. The crank sensor can be going bad and not throw a code. The service manager and diesel tech at the dealership i take my truck to said to change it every 60k or so, it will also affect your mileage. Dad went from getting 22 hand calc to 24. If it starts, dies, misfires, etc, injectors might be the way to go.

 

Hello, My 4.5 pick-up is showing some wetting on left front side of engine, It looks like diesel fuel. Where do you think it is coming from? Thanks

 

every now and then it'll crank over maybe a dozen times before it'll fire...once its running, it runs like a top. i replaced the fuel filter and it fixed the problem for a couple weeks, but its back to the same ole thing.


and this crank sensor you speak of...im assuming you mean crank position sensor?

 

Fuel filter change sure isn't going to affect a crank sensor.Seems some posted this with leaking down injectors.

 

from my understanding, the injectors wear from dirty fuel, making them drain back to the tank at higher than 180ml/min, which doesnt allow for enough build up of pressure in the rail?


please correct me if im wrong, im pretty new to the whole diesel thing

 

injectors could be leaking down, pressure relief valve could be bad, also.

 

all are possible issues, but if it were me, i would spend the 20 bucks on a crankshaft position sensor to see if it corrects the problem first. What you describe is exactly what my truck was doing before a new sensor, which corrected it immediately and i haven't had the issues since. Just my .02
