Cab odors

I have an 04 cummins with 7500 miles. Occasionally I get an oder when I am stopped or immediately after I shut it down that reminds me of a solvent similar to acetone. My dealer has no explanation. Any other similar problems out there?

Thats the ole crankcase vent fumes. If your dealer don't know that I would find another one the knows something about these engines. Some brands of oil or worser than others usually goes away after several hundred miles. Just add you a piece of hose to the end of it and extend it back further and no smell.

I get a strong odor when I use my windshield washer with the outside makeup air on. Took me a while to figure it out, but that was it. When I run out in the resevior, I'll try to find something that doesn't smell so bad.

I think you'll find that these trucks must have been designed by bloodhounds. If there's a smell to be had, then the RAM moves it into the cab to share around. Smells include roadkill, smoke, and whatever the vehicle in front has already burned.

I haven't noticed diesel smells or crankcase odors from my own truck. In fact, the 600 tailpipe odor doesn't smell all that much like diesel. What I do notice is any gasser in front of me who's really working... Nice sulphur odor just like I was directly behind their tailpipe.

I suspect that the design of the cab somehow directs these odors to the intake and there may not be all that much of a fix. Then again, it hasn't caused me any real worry and I love the truck.

My truck doesn't make crankcase or any other odors inside the cab, however like Nord, I definitely notice when I'm behind a gasser going up a hill or something, that sour sulfury burnt oil smell is awful. I'm contemplating one of the Cab Fresh Filter kits from Geno's. They are only $59 and filter all the incoming air. Not so impressed with the looks of it, but I may give one a try.
