a/c problem

I have a 05 ctd that blows a fuse as soon as I turn the a/c on. Should I assume the compressor is bad or could it be something else?

Disconnect the compressor clutch connector and see if it blows the fuse. If the fuse still blows check the wiring for chaffing (shorting to something that's grounded).

There's a wire going to the a/c sensor that may be shorted. Read this and check for short's.

I unplugged the clutch,started the truck it idled rough (surged) but didnt blow a fuse. So plugged it back in and now the a/c is working like there was no problem. Yesterday every time the clutch tried to engage the fuse would blow.????
