smokin at startup

Unhappy smokin at startup

my 04.5 blows blue (yes blue) smoke when started cold.the longer it sits and the colder it is outside the worse it is.truck has been doing this since about 18000 miles.

Yes, normal.

Diesel Fuel is in fact oil, hence the blue tint.

Walk into the cloud and sniff (gently), you'll be able to tell if it's oil or Diesel.
Diesel will make you respect those in boot camp, and the tear gas shed.

Tell your dealer about it. There is a reflash for the ECM to help correct that. The white smoke doesn't really hurt anything but the reflash helps improve MPG and is supposed to help the accuracy of the MPG calculation on the overhead display. Mine didn't get any more accurate, now it's about 1 mpg high instead of being .5-1 mpg low. It did help increase fuel economy and I didn't get as much white smoke on start-up on cold mornings though. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the reflash is 18-037-04 I believe.

thats the right flash, however I read around here somewhere that there is a newer version of the same flash out there??? that doesn't make sense to me but I read it on this forum so its gotta be true
