Burnt fluid smell

Hello,

I have a 05' CTD 2500 w/ 46k. When I am at a stop light or sign, I can smell burnt oil or fuel (not sure which) coming through the vents and outside the truck.

The truck has oil on the cover plate that's behind the drain pan, but no stains in the driveway or parking lot. Oil was changed @ 45k and the levels were good prior to the oil change.

Any ideas? Should I take it in immediately or wait till the next oil change?

Thanks,
M

Is the oil level correct?

If high, you may have cracked an injector.

1. I'm using Rotella 15w40. Oil Change every 5k miles.

2. Oil level is 1/4" above the safe mark on the dipstick. Truck hasn't been started for 5 hours. Oil pressure gauge on the dash reads normal (I know it's not that accurate) during idle and goes up when accelerating.

3. No known exhaust leaks.

I did smell the oil when I checked the dipstick and it definitely has the same smell I described originally.

Any further thoughts?

How's the seal at the back of the hood? The HVAC intake is in that cowl by the wipers.
