How much is an acceptable amount of oil to been burning 2006 3500 146k it start useing it about 5k miles ago its using about a quart every 1,000 to 1500 miles? it stinks like burning oil.

 

I use about a quart in 7500 miles, and have since new. I don't know what the limit is with Dodge, but you have not exceeded what Cummins considers excessive use yet. I asked the question early on and Cummins said they would not open up an engine unless is was using a quart in 500 miles.

 

Mine burns about 12.5 gallons per 1,000 miles... Of course I add it to my fuel tank not crank case! At a 25% ratio I have no notable increase in smell or smoke... So, if yours stinks with using 1 quart per 1000 miles... then I'd say it's not burning it... it's leaking it on the exhaust and/or block or something.

 

I have not noticed mine burning any oil????
