Hey guys. I have a built trans that has never shifted correctly. Low speed would bang hard into 2nd all the time and while accelerating would drop back into first. Sometimes it would go 1st to third. I just thought it was the nature of the beast. I was wrong. Installed the new solenoid with billet plate and oem pressure sensor. My truck drives totally different and way better. Smooth shifts. Firm but not bang! First to second used to come on way too early and so hard it would spill my coffee. Now it holds first longer and goes into 2nd then 3rd and 4th. Neat trik huh!? Haha. It has really transformed my truck. If you are on the fence about this I highly suggest doing it. I wish I did it 10 years ago!

I would like to do this to my 2005. Are there photos or youtube videos out there showing how its done? Is it as simple as taking the pan off and bolting the new parts on?

If you do a Google search on 48re governor solenoid replacement there are a few articles and YouTube also. No problems except getting atf in my ear and removing the electrical connections. Wasn't too bad

I'm looking for the place I ordered mine. It's an electronic trans parts place. I got the billet setup with solenoid installed and oen pressure sensor and filter for around 230 bucks. Can't find email or remember the name. If I can find paperwork when I get home I'll post it

I also tried the BD diesel upgraded transducer seen here:

I had issues using both of these together, had lower gov pressure than normal (40psi less). The BD transducer does not fit as tight as the stock one (in the billet block) and i think it was leaking fluid pressure by the o-ring.

Currently running stock parts again but will be adding the billet gov block back in with stock transducer once i feel like getting oily again.

So the kit from Cascade has the Borg_Warner solenoid already installed in the small piece of billet aluminum and you just swap that block with gasket and four bolts ?

If I get that and a filter, ( I see they have a filter listed at Cascade) put new fluid back in, I should be good to go? I don't have to buy anything else ?

Mine has a hard time deciding on second or third when going slow, so I drop it in second ( To help it decide).

I have always been afraid to mess with it, but I need to , it has 38k miles now.

Yes, 4 bolts and swap.

You should replace the transducer aswell, this piece.

Did you guys re use the gasket on the housing or replace it when you took the housing block off? I see that cascade has one for 6$.


How many qts of fluid does one need to buy when they drop the pan? I am hearing 7 qts.............my parts store has qt's at 7$ a piece.

I have re-used mine a few times but replacing isn't a bad idea.

I would think 7 qts is about right, i think i went through about 20 when i did a flush and pan drop on mine.

Awesome , I am ordering it right now, new filter too. ( and the pressure transducer sensor)
I watch the vids on youtube, I can do this. Truck doesn't even have to be jacked up, just roll it up on a couple flat pieces of 2x10 to gain a little more height. This will be good ,
