I know a little about blowing engines..mainly small block chev's and such when i was in school. I know how to let an engine warm up. This isnt my first rodeo. I was halfway home on a 100 mile run after pulling hay all day....I havent overworked this truck at all. My 98 has seen twice the loads and never ever coughed......and that truck has been abused and turned up and what not. I think this was just bad luck, Truck wasnt abused. Im not complaining about the price of a new engine or whatnot. i was just asking if anyof you knew where i could get one and what to expect to pay. I would like to build a short block with ceramic ct. pistons and the cam and big head wth twin turbos for a hot shot rig BUT im am paying for all this so ill see what i can do. I personally think it may have been a bad rod. IT is a machine and not all of em can be perfect. Maybe it was just my turn. Ive had my share of *perfect cummins engines. I dont doubt them any less now than 2 weeks ago.
I know they are still the most dependable engine out there.

the ats tranny should not void your engine warranty- find another dealer or contact an attorney

Actually, it is the:
"Magnuson Moss Warranty Improvement Act"
More detail at:
http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/ht...1----000-.html
Takes some time to get through it all, but essentially they have to prove that the modifications to the "Drivetrain" are what caused another "Drivetrain" component to fail.

Out of about 10 dealers, I got two who agreed to drop the price to $4800 from a list of $6200. I went for the closer one and they delivered and then picked up my core and shipped it back for free. If you're stuck buying one, at least try to avoid paying list for it.
Don't know if they mentioned it to you but, those are reman prices. It's all you can get. There may not be anything wrong with a reman but, I'd sure rather have something new than something that may have had 200K on it at one time.

I have heard that they arent avail. to the public yet. I found a longblock with turbo accessories and ecm for 6K it has 12 on it. MY block is ruined. ARe the blocks the same for all the 5.9s? I mean can i take a block form like a 94-02 and start building a shortblock and then transfer my head and injection system over? I have 2 heads and pumps from 06's to play with. I was wanting to have one of the heads ported and polished and stuff. Anybody have any experience building up the cummins from the block up??

Thanks, ZAck

I was just going off of info I have seen. Never said it to be fact. But from what most have claimed on the freeze plug trouble, it was on modded engines that weren't warmed up all the way. After you said you had the rear freeze plug replaced, I put that with everything else together and that was the only reasonable explanation I could come up with. I could have been a poorly cast rod or something, but just kinda unlikely these days. Good luck with the motor build!
