The blend door is located in the dash. It controls the direction of airflow to the dash, floor, and defroster.

So what is it that normally goes out in the megacabs? The blend door or the recirc door? I drove mine for a half hour off and on the other day when it was 25 and I can only get luke warm heat out of the thing. No code for open thermostat. So I don't think that's it. The fan is spinning all the time, but I can't tell if that's wrong or not. It moves fairly easy by hand when it's off, but it doesn't spin freely that's for sure.

It hit 180 eventually, but very very very slowly. It actually gets colder as you sit at a light...180-170-160...blah blah....cold blooded *****.

sounds like you are having the same problem that I am having. I believe it is the mode door that controls which vents the air comes out of. I can turn the **** to any setting and it only blows out of the front vents no matter what.

From what I have read, you have to remove the dash to get to the mode door. You can replace the door and actuator once the dash is out of the way. i am trying to get the parts to do this hopefully this weekend.

If you're talking about the motor warming up and its 25deg out welcome to having a desiel. Try sliding a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator if you don't want to purchase the winter bra from Dodge. Mine had the same issues a few weeks ago here in Oregon when we got the 2ft of snow.

As for the recirc door, you can drop the bottom of your fan out with 3 screws below the glove box and look up in there to see if the door is broke.

Anybody bought one of the updated Lower HVAC housings #5127758AA I tried Dodgeparts.com but they don't list it. My dealer wants $150.00 for one and I am sure I saw a post where some body had got one for a lot less. I just can't see believe they want that much for a piece of empty plastic. You can call me cheap if you like but for all the trouble with this system it should be free.

06megacabman,

I have lexan in front of the radiator now already. Here's a quick story about last night though. See if you think it's in line.

20 degrees out last night. Remote started from my desk. Ran 10minutes. Got in the truck and the Outlook monitor said coolant was 97 degrees. Truck was in high idle too. Drove 3-4 miles to daycare to get the kid. Truck was ~155 when I got there. Went in got the kid, came out about 8 mins later, truck was in high idle again, and temp was 135. Drove 10 miles home, the temp reached 178 when pulling in the drive about a half hour after starting it in the lot here at work. Seems like it should have hit 180 by then to me. Got to the end of the driveway and parked it. I could sit there and watch the temp slowly drop to 140's.

This right?

No MIL on the thermosat staying open. So I'm wondering about the fan running all the time - which it does. With the engine off, I can spin mine by hand, but it's not a free spin. It's fairly stiff. Is this right?

The fan will spin pretty good even when the fan clutch is disengaged. In those temps I think I'd expect the truck to get into the 180-190 range with the radiator completely blocked off...

Regarding the HVAC housing, here is an excellent thread on the subject, if you haven't seen it.

recirc doors are improved with a stop to prevent over travel which is what kills them. takes little over an hour to replace & part cost around $50

the blend door controls temp only, mode doors control the location air flows out of. both are in a/c unit

Not my problem some of us learn a little quicker than others!
Blend Doors are a sore subject with me. Don’t get me wrong there was a lot I liked about the truck (03 2500), but I was tired of wasting money on something as lame as Blend Doors!
