Bit of black smoke!!

I am sure it is normal but I really got on the truck for the first time today. ( much more than I have in the past) The truck pulls harder than I thought it would and I loved it!! My question is the amount of black smoke I saw in the mirror. Seemed like quite a bit to me and I have not done anything to my truck as far as performance mods go. Is this normal?

My only real world copmparrison is my buddies '03 3500 and don't remember how much it smoked before he did the Edge box but thought it was less than mine. Just wondering.

If you granny it around for a while soot must built up in the exhaust, my 2001 did it too (stock).

I layed down some nice smoke pulling out into traffic last week, second or third time I've romped on my new one.

To answer your question,........... Perfectly normal.

Thanks P.J...

That's what I did. Pulled out in front of a guy going faster then I thought so I just layed into it pretty hard. The wife even said "This thing really moves for a big truck!!!" I put out a nice sized cloud of black. I do drive it real easy for mileage reasons and it only has just over 2400 miles on it right now.

This is my first manual truck, I've had several cars, but no trucks till now.
I was suprised how it really comes on when the turbo spools, much different than my 01 Auto.

I have about 620 miles on the clock.

I had a 05 555 and it would not smoke in the stock setting. My 06 smokes just as much in stock setting as it does with the TST on 2/2. It only smokes in the 1400-1900 rpm range.
What I don't understand is isn't the 600 series more emisoin friendly then the 555?? How is it true when you get visable smoke. (more then half of my trucks miles is with a trailor on back) How much soot can the cat handle?? Are the 05 trucks like this

How many miles are on your air filter, how clean is it? Mine smokes night and day different when my filter gets real dirty, which can happen in three or four days on a dusty deer lease here.

Put a new airfilter on the other day. The truck runs and pulls great and the smoke really doesn't bother me. I just can't help it feel that this has something to do with the poorer fuel economy that the 06 owners are experincing

Due something to aid the incoming air will help clear up the smoke a little. I installed a 4" PVC pipe to the bottom of the air box that pulls from behind the front bumper. For the most part it keeps her clean. On the other hand the truck will still smoke from time to time. The same conditions one day will put out a haze and others it is blowing coal. As said typically lugging around for awhile will make them smoke harder. So will long trips up the interstate.
On another note dont confuse black smoke with emmissions. Black carbon doesnt exactly mean the monitored gasses are out of acceptable ranges. It is just wasted fuel.

I notice mine was laying some pretty nice pre-spool clouds yesterday, I may check my filter today. I love it though, you can look back and see that nice cloud lingering in one spot. It must be because of the filter, soot would never get a chance to build up in mine otherwise. She gets blown out daily.
