best year for the 3rd gens
ok, might sell my 02 and upgrade
im not looking for power right now, i plan on driving it stock for a coupla years. i need the dually and 4x4 with the 6 speed.
is the g56 or the nv5600 better? ive got the latter in my 02 and im not to fond of it. But i need the standard for towing.
which model do i look into? Year?
and it needs to be around 25-27k. Around here the diesels seem to be cheaper than other parts of the country.
also, i will make it a hot truck down the road, which model is best?
like i said, this may or may not happen. i need to know what to look for so i can price some trucks to see if it is possible. TIA!

I think the 03/early 04 HO would be the way to go. 6 speed nv5600, 305hp,555 lb-ft, no cat. My 03 2500 long bed quad cab 4x4 regularing got 19-20 mpg, a dually would be a littel less.
In 04.5 they added the cat, but hp went up to 325 and 600 lb-ft (then a little later to 610lb-ft)
The new ones are gonna be with the cat and 3rd injection event, which lower mileage.
The downside to the 305/555 truck is that when you do decide to bomb, there is a little bit less of a market, don't get me wrong there are plenty of choices, but not as many as the 04.5.
Good luck,
Nick

I absolutly hated my NV5600 and I have drove everything from old farm trucks to new farm trucks, school busses, 4 banger cars, hot rods, 3 on the tree and the NV5600 was the worst peice of crap I ever drove.

I'm not sure why anyone would want a '600' series engine more than a 305/555...they start out with a little more power but have the different injection events, cat, and dirty the oil up a lot quicker... My vote is for an 03-04 HO..
