What year is Best 3rd Gen???

I need 4 full doors now as the kids are growing fast! I am considering trading the 2001 on a 03-06 5.9... so what year is tyhe best for bombing? I pull 13k once a month for a short distance. The rest of the time she will be empty! Is one year better than another or can I just look for the best deal?

Thanks,
Josh

Get '05+ for the in-tank pump (unless dealer had already retro'd)

If you like manuals, get '05.5+ for G56 (also comes w/aluminum CAC)

Anything newer may not be depreciated enough yet for a good price.

I want an auto and will most likely upgrade the fuel system anyway! Do I really want an IN-tank fuel pump? I've never liked them!

I have the 06 QC and love it, not one bit of trouble at all, in tank pump, overdrive lock out, mine is the auto with 373, the only changes ive made is a amsoil drop in air cleaner with air box drilled out and a XZT tow box, sure pulls the trailer nice, love the quad cab just because of the back doors and the power windows back there, all good.

I like my 03 better than my 04 and the newer interiors look like they've been made with legos...square flat surfaces, dull finish, cheap....

Plus you can get an 03 really cheap by comparison?

I think with an 04.5-07 you cant go wrong. about any common rail is a good choice I think. ive seen a couple friends have problems out of 03s but that doesnt mean they are bad trucks. Ive had an 05 & 06 and they respond well to mods

05-06....the 06.5's have some ecm changes that dont work with some electronics...
but they all are good trucks so really any 3rd gen will be really nice

The 03's and 04's seem to get better fuel milage. I know my 04 got a little better milage than my 05. But you can't go wrong with any year, there all good.

I had an '03, and now have an '07.

If I had to do it again, I'd find a pristine '05. I think they have the best combination of interior ('06 and up suck) and power potential. The 325/600's are better out of the box for big hp.

That said, I miss the killer mileage of my '03...

If you are going to use the back seat for kids, get a megacab if you can. The QC has very upright seats in the back (it feels like it is 90*). If you have babies, when you put them in the car seat, because it is so upright, their head flops forward as soon as they fall asleep. It looks hard to breathe and they keep waking up because of their head position. If the kids are bigger, it is not that comfy. Too upright & no leg room.
