Best aftermarket tie rods?

It appears two of my tie rods are bad, and they aren't covered under my extended warranty (grrr). It's the one that connects to the pitman arm, and the one on the RH side. The dealer (*******) wanted $850 to replace those parts.

So... whose parts are people using to replace these when they go bad, and where's a good place to get them? I'll replace them myself.

Thanks!!

Rob

Hmm... i think this is the wrong forum for this but--- in the non-drivetrain section there is a thread for xrfautoparts and new stuff they are coming out with. This doesn't help you right now I know, but good for reference anyway. Read Below:

Thanks for your inquiry.

The parts for the new Dodges are still on testing. They are about 90 days away.

I can give you part numbers and prices, but the parts will not be available until late August.

DS1463 Right Connecting Rod $36.00
DS1464 From Connecting Ro to Left Outer Tie Rod $52.00
ES3624 Tie Rod End at the Pitman arm end $18.00
ES3625 Tie Rod End Left Outer
ES3626S Adjuster Sleeve $19.00
K7448 Upper Ball Joint no price yet
K7467 Lower Ball Joint no price yet.

I hope this helps. I apologize for the delays in getting these parts to market, but we are very thorough on our testing.

Thanks!! I can wait 90 days if these end up being the best choice. I'm not too worried about messing up my tires because the tires that came on the truck (I bought it used) aren't all the same brand, and given their tread depth, I figured on replacing 'em in the fall anyway. So that's good timing.

Hey if that is so...

This was originally brought up by ThurenFab-- who obviously knows something about front end parts-- as a promising resource.

So-- you could get the $54 parts and have a local -- and good-- mechanic do the work a lot cheaper than your dealer. Good Luck.

If you do go that route-- let me know your results as I may be doing the same thing myself pretty soon.... 106K and still climbing!

Heck I'll install the parts myself. I did a complete front-end rebuild on my '94 Jeep ZJ last year, and these two parts should be doable in about an hour. Then just have it aligned and I'll be set.

If I can find a source for Moog or similar quality parts at a good price sooner than 90 days, I'll go ahead and do it sooner than later. Otherwise I'm content to wait.

Wow-- if you said you did ball joints too, I'd be up there soon knocking on your door!

Hey, I did some searching for this "XFR Auto Parts" place and came up empty handed. Can somebody post some more info on them? I'd like to contact them about those parts and see if they're still due end of this month. Otherwise I'll call NAPA and see what I can get.

Thanks!

When I had mine done, the shop told me the pitman arm tie rod end was permanently mounted to the pitman arm and not available or replaceable separately. The parts ran me hundreds of Dollars, not $54. They used all Moog parts.

Might want to let people in on where this shop is, so they don't go there, cause if thats the case they flat out lied to you....

I went to Rock Auto yesterday and they don't have any listings for 4wd, only 2wd.

I just went back there again... their online catalog (either version) only shows 2wd when I look up Tie Rod ends. I also don't see a listing for the other part I need... not sure what it's called, but it's the part that goes from the pitman arm to the right outer tie rod end.

Maybe I should call 'em?
